This is the second post in a series dedicated to Configuresoft’s Enterprise Configuration Manager. You can find the Part I here. In the following example I will describe licensing the machines that were discovered in Part I.
From the ECM Documentation:
You can collect data and change settings only on machines that are in the Licensed list. (Also, only Licensed machines will be shown in the Console Machines display.) The number and type of machines you can license are determined by your license.
1. To license the discovered machines, expand Administration->Machines Manager->Available Machines and select Available Windows Machines.

2. Select all of the machines in the list that need to be licensed and click the License button.
3. Now a wizard will start with all of the machines selected in the previous step. Check the “Install ECM agents…” checkbox if you would like to include agent installation in this wizard. Click Next.

4. Review, the license information and click Next. This screen will not allow you to continue if you exceed the number of licenses installed.

5. Complete the licensing step by clicking Next.
6. Now set the options for the installation of the agent. This section will allow you to choose the install path on the target machine and the ECM server to install from. You can also, choose how the server communicates with the agent, and the behavior of the target machine while the agent is being installed and when it is finished. The default options should be sufficient.

7. Choose the time for the agent install to occur. Click Next then click Finish.
Check the status of the agent install by clicking on the Jobs button.

Now that your machines are licensed you will be able to use the full arsenal of ECM features. In Part 3, I will go over setting up a collection on your licensed machines. Stay tuned!
