How-To: Enterprise Configuration Manager Administration – Scheduling a Job

Part 3 of my ECM introduction will discuss scheduling a discovery job.  The advantages of scheduling a job is to allow the server to perform resource intensive tasks during off-peak hours.  This is a follow up to Part 1 and Part 2.

From the ECM Documentation:

Some ECM functions, such as collections, can be time and resource intensive, particularly on large networks. Rather than performing these functions during normal business hours, use the Scheduled Jobs function to run the following types of jobs during non-peak hours:

  • Discovery
  • Collection
  • Agent Installation/Upgrade
  • Run Reports
  • Compliance
  • Directory Services

1. To start, click on Administration -> Job Manager and choose Scheduled.

2. Now click the Add button. Add Button

3. On the first screen of the wizard, select the type of discovery job you would like to run.  In this example we will use Discovery.

4. Create a name and a description for the job.

5. Choose the Discovery rule we created in Part 1 (or choose another rule if you prefer).

6. Finally, choose the schedule parameters for the job.  In the following example, I chose every day at 2AM.
